Sr Mandril

Sr Mandril was born in 2000 when Germán González and Ramsés Ramírez decided to mix their musical ideas. The resulting sound has electronic undertones mixed with organic instruments creating a sonic image of colors, sounds and influences that go from acid jazz and ambient to latin. Sr Mandril spend a lot of time on the road at various festivals and venues around South America, also performing at the Festival for International Jazz in Montreal in 06, and 08.

After releasing their debut album to great reviews by the music media, Sr. Mandril follow up with their strong new release Terragroove. It was recorded and produced at Media Luna in Mexico by Ramsés Ramírez and mixed by Ramsés Ramírez and Gerry Rosado. This new album again is a fusion of genres covering acid jazz, funk, folk and rock with electronic and latin percussion.

“We could just say how great we feel this album is, but it’s better you hear for yourself, just how far this band has come since its debut album.” 360

Sr Mandril live

Posted by 360 Records On January - 27 - 2009

smimage_live_windowSr Mandril have played all over Mexico, South America and the Caribbean, here they are on rocking the stage on a trip to Canada to play at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (Montreal, Canada). At the head of Mexico City’s musical avant garde, Sr. Mandril synchronize bossa nova and Latin jazz with electronica grooves that bathe their audience in tropical warmth. Founders German González and Ramsés Ramirez marshal percussion, guitar and sunny vocals that pull every posterior out of its seat and propel it to the dance-floor. Rolling Stone raved about their 2006 Festival show, so they were asked back. They return with more irresistible rhythms and a new album perfectly titled Terragroove.

XLR8R Mag
Mexico City’s Sr Mandril lives up to its district’s new global reputation on this experimental effort. Fronted by Germán González and Ramsés Ramírez, this group’s future-jazz sound bridges programmed and live instrumentation for a freeform output that never quite follows one steady sonic path. It’s no wonder Sr. Mandril was such a huge hit at Montreal’s Jazz Fest in 2006-these guys thrive on improvisation. On any given track, one can expect to hear a new amalgam-”El Otro Joe,” for one, features elements of soulful house, Latin rock, and jazz. Because of Sr. Mandril’s jam-band style, though, these tunes may be better enjoyed when played on the stage.
